Consultation first
No therapy is chosen before a person has been assessed. Ayurveda describes the individual before it describes the complaint, and the practice follows that order.

Ayurveda is more than a system of treatment. It is knowledge passed through generations, a way of living and a way of caring for people — and Aptaveda is an effort to carry it into the needs of today.
Aptaveda grew out of one doctor’s practice and one family’s long relationship with Ayurveda.
Dr. Shavas MM completed his BAMS in 2008 and his MD in 2013, then practised in Oman for around two and a half years, meeting a wide range of patients and approaches to care. He returned home in 2018 and opened MM Ayurveda Clinic in Thalassery, with a particular focus on ortho-neuro care — back, knee and joint pain and nerve-related conditions — supported by in-patient treatment.
Building on that experience, he started Aptaveda Multispeciality Ayurveda Hospital at Kolassery together with Dr. Nikhil, so that treatment could be offered more comprehensively. Patients now come from across Kerala and beyond.
Believing that the real strength of Ayurveda lies not only in treating illness once it arrives, Aptaveda extended its work into wellness: an Ayurvedic & Wellness Centre at Villa De 1945 in Mahe, which welcomes guests from many places including abroad, and most recently a new centre with The Heritage 1866 Judge Bungalow at Melur.

Beyond what is learned from books, this is knowledge seen, lived and handed down through generations. That family tradition is what guides MM Ayurveda Clinic and the institutions that grew from it.

The Kerala repertoire is handed down in the doing. What happens in the therapy room here is what has always happened in it.
Diet, rest and rhythm are part of a prescription, not an accompaniment. Which is why Aptaveda works in heritage houses as well as clinics.
Two of the four locations are historic houses. They are looked after rather than decorated, and the care shows in the fabric rather than the marketing.

Ortho-neuro rehabilitation
Former Chief Physician, Al Bahja Indian Ayurvedic Clinic, Sur, Oman
Dr. Shavas MM earned his BAMS from Coimbatore Ayurveda College in 2008 and went on to an MD in Dravyaguna at ALN Rao Memorial Ayurveda Medical College, Koppa. He then spent around two and a half years in the Sultanate of Oman as Chief Physician of Al Bahja Indian Ayurvedic Clinic in Sur, broadening his practice with international patients. Back in Kerala, he founded MM Ayurveda Clinic in 2018 as a centre for ortho-neuro rehabilitation, pairing classical Ayurvedic treatment with focused orthopaedic and neurological care. Many patients have come to him with back pain, knee pain and other musculoskeletal or neurological conditions, among them people who had been advised surgery, and many have found lasting relief and moved more freely through Ayurvedic rehabilitation and pain management. In 2024 he opened Aptaveda Ayurveda Hospital in Kolassery, offering a broad range of treatments with particular strength in postnatal care and ortho-neuro rehabilitation. Aptaveda has since grown into retreat and wellness care: a branch in association with Villa De 1945 in Mahe, and the Aptaveda Ayurveda Retreat & Wellness Centre at 1866, the Heritage Judge Bungalow in Melur, Thalassery, where guests combine a heritage staycation with authentic Ayurvedic treatment and wellness programmes.
