The Kerala repertoire

Classical procedures, prepared and administered in the traditional manner. Each is described here as what it involves — what it is prescribed for is decided at consultation.

Panchakarma

Panchakarma is the classical fivefold purification of Ayurveda. It is not a single treatment but a sequence — preparation, the procedure itself, and a carefully managed return to ordinary diet and activity. It is prescribed and supervised, never selected from a menu.

Offered at

  • MM Ayurveda
  • Aptaveda
  • Villa De 1945
  • The Heritage 1866

  1. Vamana

One of the five classical procedures, undertaken after a preparatory period of internal and external oleation.

  2. Virechana

A classical purification procedure, preceded by preparation and followed by a regulated dietary regimen.

  3. Vasti

    Basti

Medicated enema therapy, administered in classical sequences over a prescribed number of days.

  4. Nasya

Administration of medicated preparations through the nasal passage, preceded by local oleation and fomentation.

  5. Raktamokshana

The classical bloodletting procedure of Panchakarma, performed under supervision.

Pain Management

Ortho-neuro rehabilitation is the area MM Ayurveda names as its principal practice. Treatment is built from the classical Kerala external therapies — oil, heat, pressure and medicated preparations applied in prescribed sequence — and is decided at consultation.

Offered at

  • MM Ayurveda
  • Aptaveda
  • Villa De 1945
  • The Heritage 1866

  1. Pizhichil

Warm medicated oil is poured in a continuous stream over the body while simultaneous massage is given.

  2. Kizhi

    Pinda Sweda

Poultices — of herbs, powders, rice or sand, depending on the prescription — are warmed and applied over the body.

  3. Dhara

A steady stream of medicated liquid is poured over a region of the body for a prescribed period.

  4. Kati Vasti / Janu Vasti

Warm medicated oil is retained over the lower back or the knee within a bounded reservoir for a set time.

  5. Abhyanga

Full-body application of warm medicated oil, given as preparation or as therapy in its own right.

Rejuvenation

Rejuvenation programmes are taken over days rather than hours — a rhythm of therapy, diet, rest and quiet that is easier to keep in a heritage house than at home. This is where the group's clinical and hospitality sides meet.

Offered at

  • MM Ayurveda
  • Aptaveda
  • Villa De 1945
  • The Heritage 1866

  2. Abhyanga & Swedana

Medicated oil application followed by herbal steam, given in sequence.

  3. Udvarthanam

Dry or oil-bound herbal powders are applied over the body with upward pressure.

  4. Mukhalepam

A medicated facial application prepared and applied in the traditional manner.
