Preparing for an Ayurvedic Retreat

What to expect from a residential programme, what to bring, and how to arrive in a state that makes the most of it.

A residential Ayurvedic programme is not a spa week, and the difference is worth understanding before you book. Treatment is prescribed, the diet is part of the prescription, and the days have a shape you are expected to keep.

It starts with a consultation

Whatever the length of the stay, the first thing that happens is an assessment. The programme is built from it. Nothing is fixed before.

Give it enough time

Aptaveda structures its inpatient programmes as stays of seven, fourteen, thirty or forty days. Classical purification in particular is a sequence — preparation, procedure, and a managed return to ordinary diet — and it does not compress well.

Practical notes

  • Bring loose, light cotton clothing you do not mind marking with oil.
  • Bring previous reports and scans, and a current list of any medication.
  • Expect the diet to be part of the treatment rather than a separate matter.
  • Plan a light day on arrival and on departure.
  • the units' own arrival guidance, to be supplied by the client.

Where to stay

Aptaveda has accommodation on its campus as 1, 2 and 3 BHK units, so family can stay through a longer programme. Guests taking outpatient treatment at MM Ayurveda often stay at The Heritage 1866 or Villa De 1945 instead.
